The Mets have another lefty going in the finale.
After tonight’s 5-3 loss to the Brewers, the Mets named Jose Quintana as the starter for Game 3 in the National League Wild Card. In somewhat related news, before the game, the Mets announced that Paul Blackburn, who has been out with a spinal fluid leak, will not return this season.
Quintana, after a rough middle of the season, has righted his season since the end of August, giving up two or fewer runs in his last six appearances.
The other option for Game 3 was David Peterson, who will still be available in relief tomorrow, and who, if not used, would likely be lined up for Game 1 of a hypothetical National League Division Series.
With Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek likely unavailable tomorrow, the Mets’ pitching staff will have an ‘all hands on deck’ approach as the Mets attempt to stave off elimination.
The game will air on ESPN at 7pm. Hug your loved ones and try to relax.
