Howie’s call was great.
As has been the case throughout these playoffs, Howie Rose came through with a great call on the radio after one of the Mets—in this case, Mark Vientos—hit a big home run. For the second time in less than a week, the Mets hit a grand slam, with Vientos’s opposite field shot putting them up 6-0 early in Game 2. Here’s the call.
Vientos has been outstanding in these playoffs, as he’s hit .378/.410/.676 with three home runs with 11 runs batted in, six runs scored, and a 203 wRC+. In a season that saw him start in Triple-A Syracuse, Vientos got a brief call-up that saw him hit a walk-off home run before being sent back to Syracuse. But once he got called up again, he quickly established that he’d be on the major league roster the rest of the way.
