J.D. Martinez gets the start at DH in a lineup that includes the eight position players who played in Game 1.
The Mets have announced their Wild Card Game 2 lineup, and there’s only one different name in it: J.D. Martinez. The veteran right-handed hitter will start at DH despite Frankie Montas, a right-handed pitcher, being the Brewers’ starting pitcher.
In Game 1, Jesse Winker got the start at DH, as he had the platoon advantage and a great track record against Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. Winker came through with a two-run triple, and later in the game with a lefty reliever on the mound, the Mets turned to Martinez, who drove in a pair of runs of his own with a single.
Anyway, here’s the full lineup:
- Francisco Lindor – SS
- Jose Iglesias – 2B
- Mark Vientos – 3B
- Brandon Nimmo – LF
- Pete Alonso – 1B
- J.D. Martinez – DH
- Starling Marte – RF
- Tyrone Taylor – CF
- Francisco Alvarez – C
SP: Sean Manaea
The only other difference in this lineup is that the Mets have swapped Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo’s spots in the batting order. Nimmo hit third last night, while Vientos was in the cleanup spot.
