The Mets have revealed which 26 players will join them in Milwaukee
The Mets have announced their 26-man roster for the Wild Card round. Earlier today, Chris McShane theorized which players might make the cut, and now we have our answer ahead of the team’s best-of-three Wild Card series against the NL Central champion Brewers.
There were not too many surprises, as the Mets went with their core group of 13 starters and 13 relievers. The team will go with six outfielders (including J.D. Martinez, who will serve as the DH) and five infielders, as well as their two catchers. The one lingering question was whether Jesse Winker, who missed the past four games and seems to be dealing with back issues of his own, would make the roster, but he will also join the team in Milwaukee. While not surprising, Luisangel Acuña making the roster after making his debut late in the year is a nice story.
On the pitching side, the club again did not rock the boat. The one surprising name is Max Kranick, who did not appear in a regular season game for the Mets and has not pitched in the majors since 2022 with the Pirates. Kranick, who owns a 3.57 ERA in 63 innings for Syracuse this season, will fill the final bullpen role, as Tylor Megill was left off, presumably since he would not have pitched anyway after starting the playoff-clinching victory. There was some speculation that Huascar Brazobán or Adam Ottavino may not make it, but both made the cut, as did Danny Young. David Peterson, who pitched on Sunday, also made the bullpen as an option for later in the series.
