Severino was effective for the Mets in 2024.
The Mets have extended a qualifying offer to Luis Severino following his effective 2024 season. If the 30-year-old right-handed pitcher were to accept, he’d earn $21.05 million on a one-year contract with the Mets in 2025.
Signed to a one-year deal coming off a down year with the Yankees in 2023, Severino was healthy and effective for the Mets in 2024. Over the course of 31 regular season starts, he threw 182.0 innings and finished the season with a 3.91 ERA and a 4.21 FIP. And in 16.2 innings in the playoffs over three starts, he had a 3.24 ERA and a 4.43 FIP.
While Sean Manaea seems likely to decline his qualifying offer, Severino might be slightly more inclined to accept his. If he were to decline, the Mets could still bring him back, of course, but they’d receive draft compensation if he were to end up signing elsewhere.
