Free Agent Alex Bregman has gained much attention this offseason, and the New York Mets have joined the rumor pool for the star infielder. According to Mark Feinsand, the Mets, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox are the suitors with the highest interest in the 30-year-old. In addition, back in November, John Heyman claimed that the Detroit Tigers were a possible suitor for him. It’s already been a busy offseason, but there is so much more to come, with many remaining free agents still to be signed.

Bregman’s Treasured Success
Bregman is a two-time All-Star, a two-time World Series champion, a Silver Slugger winner (2019), a Gold Glove winner (2024), and All-Star Game MVP (2018). Surprisingly, he only earned his first Gold Glove award last season. Bregman was nominated for the Gold Glove award in 2018, 2019, and 2024. The only difference is that he earned his first Gold Glove award at third base in 2024.
While MLB has many young, talented athletes, the veterans are the ones who foster wisdom. In addition, it provides leadership and experience while continuing to spark momentum. Bregman, without question, falls in this category. The Mets have already made the biggest MLB signing this offseason by signing superstar Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million ‘‘MLB record’ contract. They are looking to become a threat in 2025 following a successful 2024 season. The Mets reached as far as the 2024 NL Championship Series. They also finished with a highly successful (65-38) record commencing from June 3rd to the end of the regular season.
Bregman would make a suitable candidate for the Mets as he could help tie up loose ends with defense. But Bregman is not just gifted defensively. Bregman is what you would call a reliable and consistent hitter. He has showcased this through his nine years of MLB service with the Astros. Bregman also has the strong asset of not striking out a lot at the plate. Bregman has never struck out more than 97 times in a season.
