Meet the Mets
Today is the most important day in the game for a different sport, but the Super Bowl still has a Mets connection, as Patrick Mahomes—son of Pat Sr., a former Met—tries to make history. Mike Hampton reminisced about the days at Shea Stadium when Mahomes was just 5 years old and had always envisioned the gangly kid becoming a shortstop rather than one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time. “The photo [of a young Patrick Mahomes tracking fly balls at Shea Stadium in 2000] gets circulated this time of year because Patrick is in the Super Bowl every year,” Hampton said.
The Mets signed right-hander Andrew Carson to a minor league deal. The 24-year-old had a 1.59 ERA and five saves at the University of Tampa last year.
