Meet the Mets
The Mets had chance after chance after chance to score against Phillies starter Ranger Suárez but they could not break through against his curveball. It was a maddening offensive display but thankfully José Quintana nearly matched him. He gave up just one run in the fourth on a Mark Vientos misplay.
With all the runners left on base, things weren’t looking so great for the Mets until Jeff Hoffman became erratic in the sixth. The Mets loaded the bases for Francisco Lindor and he sent Citi Field into a frenzy when he hit a grand slam off Carlos Estévez who had just entered the game. David Peterson held down the fort until the ninth when Edwin Díaz entered. He walked the first two batters he faced, and with two-out Kyle Schwarber walked to the plate as the tying run. Díaz struck him out on a 101 mph fastball to clinch the series and send the Mets to the NLCS.
