Smith will remain with the organization he has been with since 2017.
The Mets have brought a longtime friend back into the fold, re-signing Drew Smith to a one-year deal. The contract contains a club option for the 2026 season.
Smith has spent his entire major league career with the Mets after being traded over from the Rays in exchange for Lucas Duda in 2017, and he has pretty consistently been a solid bullpen option for the team when healthy, as evidenced by his 3.48 ERA and 115 ERA+ throughout his career—though staying on the field has often been an issue for him. He was in the midst of another solid season for the team in 2024—putting up a 3.06 in 19 appearances—before being diagnosed with significant UCL damage in July, forcing him to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career.
As a result of the surgery, he will likely miss the entire 2025 season. But Smith will now have the chance to conduct his rehab with the Mets, and the team will have the option of bringing him back for the 2026 season if he is healthy then.
