Francisco Lindor leads the charge in Milwaukee.
After announcing their roster a few hours ago, the Mets announced the starting lineup for game one of the Wild Card series against the Brewers.
- Francisco Lindor, SS
- José Iglesias, 2B
- Brandon Nimmo, LF
- Mark Vientos, 3B
- Pete Alonso, 1B
- Jesse Winker, DH
- Starling Marte, RF
- Tyrone Taylor, CF
- Francisco Alvarez, C
Luis Severino, SP
The most notable piece of the lineup is the return of Jesse Winker to the lineup. Earlier today, reports of a sore back were leading to a conversation about Brett Baty possibly taking Winker’s spot on the roster. Winker has been in a slump for much of the last month, but not as bad of a slump as J.D. Martinez who, despite a couple of hits collected over the past two days, is mired in one of the worst stretches of his career. With right-handed starting pitchers announced for the Brewers in the first two games, an effective Winker would be a nice addition to the lineup.
Otherwise, the lineup is similar to what the Mets have been rolling out as of late, with Tyrone Taylor continuing to get at-bats. Today’s lineup is maximized for offensive prowess, with Starline Marte instead of Harrison Bader stating in the outfield.
