Friends don’t let friends just hear the FOX broadcast.
In a season that keeps delivering iconic moments, Mets fans are constantly reminded of the blessing that Gary Cohen and Howie Rose are. In the postseason, we are robbed of Cohen’s voice, a companion for most of the season, but we are still treated to Rose on Audacy 880 AM. For those who were lucky enough to be at the game last night or those unlucky enough to not sync their radios to the TV broadcast, we present Rose’s call of Francisco Lindor’s game-winning grand slam from Game 4 of the National League Division Series.
Rose’s call is absolutely perfect for a few reasons: it is descriptive, but not devoid of emotion. On the contrary, Rose’s call is overflowing with genuine excitement and enthusiasm. He’s also a master of word choice, with the feast and famine metaphor perfectly woven into the call. Calling a game on radio is incredibly hard, as you have to give a lot of information without the benefit of visuals, and Rose does that all with aplomb.
