New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor put his name in the record books Wednesday afternoon. Lindor hit his 25th home run of the season, becoming the first shortstop in MLB history to hit 25 home runs and steal 25 bases in a season three times. He previously accomplished this last season with the Mets and in 2018 with the Cleveland Guardians. Lindor is one of three active players with three seasons of 25-plus home runs and 25-plus steals, joining Mike Trout and Jose Ramirez.

Francisco Lindor Achieves Rare 25-25 Feat
Lindor had his 12-game hitting streak snapped on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles. He reached base safely in every game until then for August, hitting .325/.374/.494 with three home runs, three stolen bases and 10 RBI in 19 games. Lindor already had 25 steals when he came to the plate in the third inning when he swung at a 1-1 pitch from left-hander Cole Irvin and hit the ball over the right-center-field fence. Lindor’s efforts at the plate on Wednesday put him on track to make more history.
Lindor is on Pace for More History
Bobby Witt Jr. and Lindor are on the verge of making MLB history. Both players are closing in to become the first shortstops ever to have back-to-back 30/30 seasons. Witt hit 30 home runs last year and currently has 25 home runs, 25 steals and a .352 batting average. Lindor has overcome a slow start and already has achieved milestones, including a 24-home run and 25 stolen base campaign. Both players are in the discussion for MVP in their respective leagues. Witt leads the American League in batting average, while Lindor stands as the National League leader in fWAR among position players. The potential for Witt and Lindor to achieve back-to-back 30/30 seasons is a significant mark in MLB history.
