Cord cutters celebrate throughout the Tri-State area.
Mets fans who have been holding onto their cable television package because it is the only way to watch SNY, rejoice! Today, SNY is launching a stand-alone streaming service for in-market fans to watch Mets games. The new service is a partnership with Major League Baseball, and promises integration with MLB.tv.
The package costs $24.99 a month, or can be purchased for $124.99 for the season or $149 for the year, for those that can’t live without Mets Hot Stove and UConn Huskies games.
It is unknown at this time if this service will also include PIX11 games. 25 regular season games will air on PIX11 in 2025.
Evan Drellich of the Athletic wrote a thorough breakdown of the news, including how it is both similar and different to other team’s streaming options. The Mets join 21 other MLB teams with the ability to get games without a cable package, eliminating blackouts for fans who cut the cord. Steve Raab, president of SNY, cited the reason for this not happening sooner as being a result of trying to keep their current relationships with cable/satellite providers healthy.
“It’s taken a few years to get to a point with our existing cable and satellite and telco partners to figure out an equation that allows those partnerships to still be what they should be, but also have an opportunity to then offer something to sports fans who aren’t part of part of their bundles.”
