The New York Yankees are promoting Jorbit Vivas to the major league roster, according to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino. Vivas, 23, is already on the 40-man roster and will be on the 26-man roster. Yankees Calling Up Jorbit Vivas
Vivas has split time between second base(27 games) and third base (15 games), giving the Yankees flexibility at both positions. He is hitting a robust .258/.404/.424 line with the RailRiders. He has five home runs, six doubles, a triple and nine stolen bases. Vivas has strong discipline at the plate with a 18.3 percent strikeout rate and a 17.2 percent walk rate. The left-handed swinger hit 13 home runs, 63 RBI and hit .269/.381/.407 across 135 games in Double-A and Triple-A during 2023.
His hand-eye coordination and quick, compact left-handed stroke allow Vivas to make consistent contact against all types of pitches all over the zone. He ehanches his on-base ability with a willinginess to draw walks and a knack for getting hit by pitches.
Yankees second baseman have been playing decent with a collective .224/.296/.336 line. Most of the work at second base has come from Gleyber Torres, who began the season on a cold streak then turned it around in May/June but fell back to inconsistency in July. Third base shares a similar .236/.297/.314 line between the combination of Jon Berti, Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu. Vivas should get the opportunity to play rountinely between Torres and LeMahieu, who are the regular starters at those positions.
