The odds for next season’s MVP are out, and it looks like the MVP race is as wide open as ever. Here are the current odds for the MVP next season:
Luka Doncic +330
Nikola Jokic +480
Anthony Edwards +800
Jalen Brunson +1200
Brunson has the sixth-shortest MVP odds, and there is some value there. He was fifth in MVP voting last season, and the Knicks are positioned to make a lot of noise in the Eastern Conference this upcoming season. At +1200, those who believe in Brunson and the Knicks could cash out big if everything breaks right in New York.
Knicks Resurgence
Since Jalen and Rick Brunson teamed up in New York, the Knicks have been killing it. Last year, Brunson averaged 28.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds. That put him in the top-five for scoring and the top-15 for assists in the league. The Knicks ended the season with the second-best record in the East at 50-32, their best season in over a decade.
The season didn’t end as Knicks fans would have hoped after a playoff flameout in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Their health luck ran out during the end of their series with the Pacers. Eventually, they lost in a disappointing Game 7. Brunson was hurt toward the end of the playoffs but still averaged an astounding 32.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds.

Brunson MVP Chances
Next season, the Knicks are expected to be even better than last. They picked up Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns in the offseason. The Knicks now have one of the best rosters in the NBA. They are projected to win around 54 games. The Knicks will likely be fighting with the Boston Celtics as the best team in the Eastern Conference. Now that the Knicks have champion expectations, Brunson will be judged on a less forgiving scale. They will, however, have a chance at the number one seed, which will help Brunson’s MVP chances.
Mike Brown on Jalen Brunson last season:
“I don’t know if we’ve blitzed anybody as much as we did, Steph maybe, tried to send two at him, and he still scored 42 points on over 50% from the field.”

Although the Knicks have bolstered their roster with more talent, neither Bridges nor Towns will take too much shine away from the beloved Villanova star. Bridges is more of a 3-and-D specialist, and even though Towns is a 20-point-per-game scorer, he is comfortable in a secondary star role.
The table is set for Brunson and the Knicks to have an incredible season. Coach Tom Thibodeau is known to lean on his stars, and Brunson will have the lion’s share of touches in New York. With +1200 odds, there is some value in betting on Brunson, but for him to actually win the award over his competition, who will likely have better statistics, the Knicks would likely need to have a historic 60+ win season.
