The New York Knicks have been playing some of their best postseason basketball in decades – much to the delight of a New York fanbase that’s practically foaming at the mouth to see them succeed. But NBA analyst Charles Barkley had some harsh words for New York that everyone outside of the Tri-State Area seems to appreciate.
After the Knicks won a thrilling Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers, Barkley said that he would “love” to see the Knicks get “stomped by the Celtics” in the Eastern Conference Finals. When pressed, Barkley said that New Yorkers deserve that kind of outcome because of their arrogance. Barkley joked that New Yorkers have an overinflated ego because “y’all make good pizza and good bagels.” Though he wouldn’t go so far as to diss the “street meat.”
“You know, if the Knicks win, that’ll be good,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA. “I don’t care who wins, but I’ll tell you what — I would love to see them get their ass stomped by the Celtics. That’d be great.
“Yeah, because the New Yorkers, y’all deserve it, because y’all think y’all [are] the greatest thing since sliced bread. Come on, y’all ain’t that good in New York! Y’all overrated. Just because y’all make good pizza and good bagels?
“I ain’t gonna say nothing bad about the street meat,” Barkley added as the other NBA on TNT cast members laughed. “I love the street meat. I don’t care what kind of meat it is, either. It tastes good. Rat, dog, cat, skunk, raccoon — it tastes good. Just put that white sauce on it.”
Fans absolutely loved what Barkley said, especially for cutting the city of New York to shreds like that:
“Chuck saying he likes him some street meat had me like (dead),” one user wrote.
“I don’t watch basketball but I love these clips. Chuck’s hate cracks me up,” wrote another.
“The best studio sports show of all time. And it’s not even close IMHO. Pure entertainment,” a third declared.
“Y’all think y’all the greatest thing since sliced bread.”
