An Eastern Conference NBA executive has already heard the places believed to be Giannis Antetokounmpo’s would-be preferred destinations: “The teams I’ve heard are Miami and New York — the Nets, not the Knicks.” There are also other teams with the means, in theory, to go after a player of Giannis’ caliber. The Oklahoma City Thunder certainly come to mind, and I asked the Eastern Conference executive about the Thunder potentially making a run if Milwaukee’s big man eventually wants out. “I haven’t heard them mentioned, but yeah, if you’re Milwaukee you might just go, ‘I don’t give a f— what you want. If you want out, we’re getting the best deal we can.’ And Oklahoma City could definitely offer a good one.”

The Bucks have spent $700+M the last three seasons…and have just one playoff series win.
“Incredibly frustrating,” says co-owner Wes Edens.
Bur while still in win-now mode, there is flexibility to continue to build around Giannis & Lillard in future.

More on this storyline
All of this could lead exactly to the place the Bucks organization most fears: Giannis Antetokounmpo in another team’s jersey. “Teams are circling — and hopeful,” one Western Conference team executive said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened by the trade deadline,” said a top executive of a team that could be in the mix. -via CBSSports.com / October 31, 2024
Is Doc Rivers going to be able to fix this? Should Bucks fans be worried? Nehm: It’s worth noting that the Bucks have a top-heavy roster and Khris Middleton has yet to play a game this season. To some, that could mean a reason to worry even more, while others may believe that is a reason for optimism moving forward. I think it is fair for Bucks fans to worry because the Bucks should have started the season 3-0 before dropping Monday’s game to the Celtics, but there is still plenty of reason to believe they can turn this around. If Doc Rivers is going to get them back into the position to contend for a title this season, it will require him getting more from his roster on the nights in which they play less talented teams and continuing to build chemistry between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Both of those things are far from impossible. -via New York Times / October 29, 2024
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Bucks as they finish their road trip against the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday and then play a home-and-home set with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Still, Antetokounmpo remains positive about where this team can go this season even if that positivity is fostered more out of necessity than true belief. “You have to. You have no choice. You have to,” Antetokounmpo said. “It’s the fourth game of the season. Even if we sucked, even if we were very, very bad, it’s the fourth game of the season, like you have to be optimistic. “This is the job that we are in, but at the end of the day, we have a great team. I believe we’re going to keep on playing better, keep on learning from our mistakes, and eventually we’re going to start winning games.” -via New York Times / October 29, 2024
