Jalen Brunson made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left after the Knicks had blown a 21-point lead, and New York edged the Brooklyn Nets 124-122 on Friday night to improve to 2-0 in the NBA Cup. Brunson missed a potential game-winning shot in a loss to Chicago on Wednesday but came through when the Knicks needed him this time and finished with 37 points. OG Anunoby added 25 and Mikal Bridges had 22 against his former team before partially blocking Dennis Schroder’s layup attempt on the final possession.

More on this storyline
The ball looked good as it left Jalen Brunson’s fingers. It sure looked like it was going in as it settled softly on the rim. And from various precincts around Madison Square Garden, there was a premature spasm of glee. From there, it may have looked like the ball went in. The ball didn’t go in. “I thought it was in,” Mikal Bridges said, “and then it wasn’t.” The ball spun out, and when it did, the Knicks had suffered their first heartbreaking loss of the season, a 124-123 gut punch to the Bulls that was intriguing as hell, because across all 48 minutes we were treated to the very best and the very worst of what this team is capable of, especially in this first quadrant of the season. -via New York Post / November 14, 2024

“Each day he gets better,” Thibodeau said. “He’s got a great feel for the game, and he’s a worker. He’s still learning the league and he’ll get better and better, with understanding what’s happening with defenses and also as he becomes more familiar with the people that he’s guarding and the teams. “I think each time out, you can see his confidence growing. We have a lot of confidence in him, and I see it every day. Usually it starts in practice, and if you practice well, you usually play well.” Added starting point guard Jalen Brunson: “I talk to Tyler every day. I like Tyler, just watching him work hard every single chance he gets, it’s something that gets me excited about his future.” -via New York Post / November 10, 2024
