New York won its fourth consecutive exhibition but lost an important player to a shoulder injury.
The Knicks played their penultimate preseason game on Tuesday and cooked themselves another dub, the fourth in a row, to go 4-0 in exhibition games this fall after beating the Charlotte Hornets 111-105 inside MSG.
That was all good, even more considering it was an all-reserves game with both the starting five and second unit comprised of bench players. What wasn’t great was seeing Landry Shamet’s shoulder popping out and forcing him out of the game and, worst-case scenario, the Knicks roster for the regular season if New York opts to avoid carrying damaged goods into the campaign.
Here’s what Tom Thibodeau and a plethora of other players and people had to say before and after Tuesday’s game as the Knicks gear up for their final preseason matchup on Friday in the nation’s capital.
Thibs: “Tyler played a terrific game
“Pacome gave us great minutes
“Ariel gave us rly good minutes
“Precious was terrific
“Jericho rebounding was excellent
“Deuce is Deuce
“Deuce & Cam play v well off each other
“And when you throw Landry in there…that group plays fast…” pic.twitter.com/NcLWRfvSxL

Tom Thibodeau
On Giving The Bench More Time Against Charlotte:
“It’s a good opportunity to get a look at some of those guys and give the bench extended minutes. It’s good from that point.”
On The Performance Against The Hornets:
“Tyler (Kolek) played a terrific game. Pacome (Dadiet) gave us great minutes. Ariel (Hukporti) gave us really good minutes. Precious (Achiuwa) was terrific. Jericho (Sims’) rebounding was excellent. Deuce (McBride) is Deuce.
“Deuce and Cam (Payne) play very well off each other. And when you throw Landry (Shamet) in there—that group plays fast.”
On The Knicks’ Offensive Growth:
“Some good. I think the shot creation’s been good. We haven’t knocked shots down.
“You’re striving to be a 48-minute team so I think they’re still building rhythm and just keep getting better every day.”
On Landry Shamet’s Injury:
“He’s being examined. I haven’t talked to medical yet.”
On Cam Payne’s Contributions:
“He’s always got the same energy. What you see in the game is what he does in practice.”
On Precious Achiuwa:
“When he’s in motion he’s very tough to guard. We’ve been trying to emphasize that with him.
“Having coached against him, when he’s moving around, playing out of pocket and going to the board, attacking, no one wants to see that.”
Cam Payne on his NBA journey and his approach every day:
“The biggest experience was me being waived and going overseas. I don’t want to go back overseas. That’s my identity. I’m going to play my heart out. I’m going to do whatever I gotta do to help the team win” pic.twitter.com/9FTMb4ptgH

On Landry Shamet’s Shoulder Injury:
“Initially I didn’t think it was that serious, but man, I’m sending a prayer to him. That’s been my guy for a few years so it was kind of hard to see him go out there and what they told us happened.”
On His Approach to the Game as an NBA Veteran:
“The biggest experience was me being waived and going overseas. I don’t want to go back overseas. That’s my identity. I’m going to play my heart out. I’m going to do whatever I gotta do to help the team win.”
Karl-Anthony Towns
On Joining the New York Knicks and Adapting to the Team:
“Yeah, I mean, these guys make it much easier for me. We’ve got an amazing group of guys in this locker room, super intelligent high IQ guys.
“Obviously, the talent speaks for itself so to be able to adjust to this new offense, it is something that’s really been beneficial to have guys like JB. Josh Hart’s been amazing, Mikal. OG has been fantastic.
“I mean, everybody from the top to the bottom of the roster has been a huge help to me.”
On Reconnecting with His Dominican Roots:
“We’re all looking at the next generation and enjoying the cookouts in the same backyard with the same basketball hoop I was playing with when I was dreaming of being an NBA player.”
“I have a chance to make [these cookouts] now.”
On Nickname “Bodega K.A.T.”:
“That’s clever. That’s pretty good.”
On Having Dominican Fans In The Stands Banging Drums on the Home Opener:
“I can’t wait. Tell them to call Leon Rose.”

Mikal Bridges
On Towns’ Adjustment to New York:
“Yeah, [he’s] just figuring it out. I know it’s tough, especially when you come to a city like here and they’ve got some home games and the crowd wants you to shoot every time.”
On the Knicks’ Evolving Chemistry:
“I think it’s a lot more we can do, but I think we’re just trying to figure it out.
“We just got KAT right before training camp, so just trying to figure it out. It’s going to take some time to figure it out more.”

“Donte’s a grown man, he’s going to stand his ground. It’s basketball at the end of the day, we’re not going to get into the personal stuff.”

Julius Randle (Minnesota Timberwolves Player)
On Donte DiVincenzo and Rick Brunson’s Exchange:
“Donte is a grown man. He was standing his ground. And he’s a competitor at heart. That’s just really what it is.”
On Donte DiVincenzo’s Skills:
“From what I know, the back cuts and all that stuff, that man got bounce. A lob threat.”
On Video Tribute During Knicks Game:
“It was cool. I didn’t really see much of it until afterwards when my son was playing it at home.”
Gilbert Arenas says Jalen Brunson is a better scoring version of Chris Paul
“Brunson is a Chris Paul who scores. Brunson is not going to hit two threes and then go down and try to take a 40-foot shot just for a heat check.”

On Jalen Brunson’s Playstyle:
“He’s a scoring Chris Paul. Brunson ain’t going to hit two threes and then come down and try to take a 40-footer just for a heat check.”
Spike Lee (Knicks Superfan)
On the Knicks’ Championship Chances:
“This is the year. The Boston Celtics are the world champions, but this—this is our year.”
“We got the pieces. [We got] a great coach. [We got] Leon Rose [and] World Wide Wes doing their thing in the front office… I just feel deep down, in my heart, it’s going to happen this year.”

Rich Paul (Klutch Sports Honcho)
On Rumored Friction Between Klutch Sports and the Knicks:
“There were rumors that Klutch and the Knicks don’t work with each other, but ya’ll hashed things out earlier this year.”
“I don’t mind the smoke, man. Look, people have their alliances, and that’s fine. It happens in our league, and media picks up on certain things. They know me well, and they know how I’m going to handle my business, and we had a conversation, and it was clear.”
On Talent Dictating the Market:
“If I have the right player and the Knicks got the right money, and he wants to be there, he’ll be a Knick. It’s just as simple as that. right?
“But that don’t stop the alliances from running around with the tabloids and the negative nonsense, the bylines.
“But again, I’m so far above that.”
On Resolving Issues With The Knicks:
“When I go to Knicks games, my office hits Leon [Rose’s] office, and it’s all good. Yeah, nothing but access. Nothing but support.
“He understood and he was like ‘I can totally see where you’re coming from’ but the industry knows what’s up and it’s just part of it, right?”
