Ho hum. Looks a lot like last year’s.
The 2024-25 NBA city edition uniforms have been revealed. Once again, most are hard on the eyes. For the New York Knicks, the jersey’s design appears to be carried over from last year. Here are all the designs, courtesy of Nice Kicks.

City Edition uniforms are part of the NBA’s partnership with Nike, introduced in 2017 as a way to “represent the stories, history and heritage that make each franchise unique.” Sonja Henning, North America Vice President, League Partnerships, NIKE, Inc., has said, “The Nike NBA City Edition uniform continues to be an incredible canvas to tell the stories of these basketball communities.”
The uniforms differ from the traditional team colors or styles. Some offer a fresh take on a team’s identity. Others are real head scratchers. For instance, we still can’t tell what the Knicks’ City jersey says about the fanbase. Clue us in, design wizards.
The City Edition is one of four to five uniform editions each team has in its rotation. For New York, they are: Association (white and hard to keep clean); Icon (classic team colors); Statement (dark and Batman-y); and City (that beer-goggles, double-vision version). View them all here.
The City jerseys typically make their debut during the NBA’s In-Season Tournament. One curious aspect of the NBA’s uniform system is that teams cannot choose when they will wear their City Edition uniforms. The NBA meticulously plans the entire season, dictating the uniform choice for every game. This means that each team knows in advance when they’ll be donning their City Edition jerseys, ensuring consistency across the league and reducing stress for the laundry staff.
According to The Athletic, “There are rules on how often a franchise must wear each jersey: Association and Icon must be worn at least 10 times during a season, Statement six times, City Edition and Classic three times.” For fans eager to know when their favorite team will be sporting their City Edition threads, the NBA publishes the entire uniform schedule on its LockerVision site.
Zach Harper of The Athletic rated New York’s jersey 3.5 out of 10. He wrote, “Please stop doing the ‘bad at font shadowing’ look on Knicks jerseys.” Yet, inexplicably, he rated the Bulls entry a 4.5. . . .
