The New York Knicks are expected to be one of the teams with interest in trading for Kevin Durant this offseason. The Knicks previously pursued Durant when he was a free agent in 2019, but he instead joined forces with Kyrie Irving to sign with the Brooklyn Nets.
“I do think the concept of the Knicks is an interesting one,” said Brian Windhorst on the Stephen A. Smith Show. “Now, in my opinion, I’ve never understood why Kevin Durant didn’t go to the Knicks in 2019 instead went to the Nets.”
Windhorst also said that the outcomes of the playoffs could go a long ways in shaping the trade market for Durant. Durant has gone on record stating he hopes to have control over his next team, but the nature of the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement environment could result in him having less control than he anticipates.
Shams Charania reported this week that the Suns plan to work with Durant and Rich Kleiman on a trade his offseason, suggesting that his side will have some level of influence over the process. Charania also reported that the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and the aforementioned Knicks will be amongst the teams with interest in Durant.
