Fred Katz: The Knicks did NOT extend the $6.3M qualifying offer to Precious Achiuwa, league sources said. Knicks have not ruled out bringing Achiuwa back, but if he picked up the QO, it would eat into their hard cap situation a lot.

Ian Begley: We all saw what happened on the floor. He played important minutes for this team when ravaged by injuries. They didn’t make it through that long stretch when everyone was banged up without his contributions. Yes, there are tax implications, and you want to stay away from that second apron, but also stay away from that first apron and get hard capped there. With Achiuwa, I think you give him the qualifying offer and see what his market is. If you need to rescind the qualifying offer for financial reasons, you can. That’s probably how it’ll go. Hartenstein’s deal is going to happen before Achiuwa, so you’ll have a chance to know whether he’ll be back before making a final decision on Achiuwa. -via HoopsHype / June 17, 2024
