The New York Knicks would not be “enthusiastic” in pursuing a trade for Donovan Mitchell if he became available this offseason compared to their level of interest in 2022, sources tell Fred Katz of The Athletic.
The Knicks had serious talks with the Utah Jazz on a Mitchell trade during the 2022 offseason, but they ultimately traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks were unwilling to meet Utah’s asking price. The decision from Utah to pivot to Cleveland may have benefited all three teams as the Knicks saw Jalen Brunson emerge as an All-NBA player, while the Jazz acquired a franchise anchor in Lauri Markkanen.
There is a growing expectation that Mitchell and the Cavaliers will agree to a four-year, $208.5 million extension this offseason.
