The undrafted free agent played fort he Phoenix Suns last Summer League.
The New York Knicks have signed former Northwestern star Boo Buie to an Exhibit 10 contract, bringing the two-time All-Big Ten guard to training camp, the franchise announced on Monday.

Buie, NU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,187 points over five seasons, comes to the Knicks after a Summer League stint with the Phoenix Suns, where he averaged 9.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 rebounds across five games.
Boo went undrafted in June and was expected to sign a similar Ex-10 deal with the Suns for their own training camp, but the contract was never finalized.
His standout play in college didn’t quite catch the attention of NBA teams as all of them passed on spending a draft pick on him, but he’s coming off averaging a solid 19.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game during his final year at Northwestern.
Buie wrapped up his final college campaign earning a place on the First Team All-Big Ten for the second time in his amateur career.
Buie’s calling cards are his efficient shooting—43.8% from the field, 43.4% from three-point range, and 85.8% from the free-throw line—and his defensive chops, leading Northwestern to back-to-back March Madness appearances.
Boo also earned the 2024 Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year award last April.
The Exhibit 10 contract Buie signed is a one-year, non-guaranteed deal designed to bring him to training camp with the potential to earn a full roster spot. If the unexpectable happens and somehow Buie convinces Thibs and the brass he’s worth a bonafide deal, the Knicks could convert the deal into a two-way contract, allowing him to split time between the NBA and their G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks.
Should Buie be waived but remain with the G-League team for at least 60 days, Buie would be eligible to receive a bonus of up to $77.5K, according to HoopsRumors.
Buie’s addition helps bolster the Knicks’ depth at the guard position but this feels more like a warm body to get reps inside the team’s gym rather than someone with a solid shot at cracking the final roster even if it’s one a two-way, minor deal.
He’s a defensive dog, so from a practice and Thibs-fit standpoint it made sense for the Knicks to bring him in and have him around for a couple of weeks. We’ll have to wait and see if we really watch him get any minutes on actual (fake-preseason) games.
