The New York Knicks are waiving guard Landry Shamet. The Knicks had signed Shamet to a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract earlier this offseason.
After the Knicks made trades for Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, it looked like Shamet may make the opening night roster. Unfortunately, Shamet suffered a dislocated shoulder earlier this week. It’s unclear when he’ll be available to play, but Shamet could re-sign with New York when he’s healthy.
The Knicks have three open standard roster spots. They’ll have to sign at least two players to get to the required minimum of 14 players on standard deals. One challenge for New York is that they have only $3.5 million in space under the second apron, where they are hard-capped as a result of the Bridges’ and Towns’ trades.
