OG Anunoby and the New York Knicks have agreed to a five-year, $212.5 million contract. Anunoby’s deal will include a player option and trade kicker. The Knicks acquired Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in December in exchange for Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett.
In 23 regular season game with the Knicks, Anunoby averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks in 34.9 minutes.
Anunoby is represented by Drew Morrison, Austin Brown and Sam Rose of CAA. Anunoby will not reach the open free agent market with his agents negotiating the contract with Leon Rose over the past few days.
Rival teams could have offered Anunoby a four-year contract worth up to $182 million. Anunoby’s max with the Knicks would have been worth $245.3 million over five years. Anunoby is signing for almost $33 million less than his max and his first year salary will be at approximately 26 percent of the NBA salary cap.
The Knicks traded for Mikal Bridges on Tuesday evening as they secure two of the best two-way wings in the NBA in Bridges and Anunoby. In the immediate aftermath of the Bridges’ trade, it was reported that the Knicks still highly prioritized retaining Anunoby.
