Anunoby earned his only All-Defensive when he made second team in 2023 as a Toronto Raptor. Now, he believes he’s due for greater honors. “I think I should be on First Team All-Defense. I think I should win Defensive Player of the Year,” Anunoby said. “I’ve always felt that way.”

OG Anunoby just picked up his fourth foul 42 seconds into the third quarter.
I would’ve bet a lot of money Towns would’ve picked up No. 4 first. – 8:25 PM

Big three-minute stretch coming here late in this first half for #Cavs, as two Knicks — OG Anunoby (the best player on the floor tonight so far) and Karl-Anthony Towns — might have to sit with three fouls apiece. – 8:00 PM

Halftime: Sixers 42, Knicks 59
Even with Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns sidelined, the Sixers just do not have enough manpower here in New York.
Grimes (8 points) did not score in the second quarter, but is still the Sixers’ leading scorer. Anunoby leads New York with 18. – 8:44 PM

More on this storyline
But blocks don’t tell the full story, Anunoby argues. There are no stats on a box score, for example, for getting around screens. “There’s no stats for that. There’s no stat for picking up a dribble to pass,” Anunoby said. “Or [taking away] shot attempts, there’s no stat for that. So they can’t really tell. “And big men. They just always give it to the big men.” -via New York Daily News / April 4, 2025
During these 14 games without Brunson, Anunoby is getting to the line more than twice as often: 5.2 times a game compared to 2.5 before the injury. Much of it is because of this move and because of those demonic drives. He has drawn shooting fouls on 18 percent of his drives to the basket over the 14-game heater, nearly twice his rate from before Brunson got hurt and third in the NBA during this stretch, according to Second Spectrum. Anunoby has a new style, and it’s bringing new results. -via New York Times / April 4, 2025
