Former NBA Star Jamal Crawford to call 10 Knicks games this year.
Today The Athletic reported that Jamal Crawford, the former NBA star known for his two-decade playing career, will serve as a game analyst for about 10 New York Knicks games this season. He will join the MSG Network broadcast team alongside lead announcer Mike Breen for most telecasts. While MSG offered no comment, we can assume that Jamal will fill in on Walt “Clyde” Frazier’s off nights.
Crawford’s insight as a former Knickerbocker should bring something special to the commentary team.
In 2000, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Crawford 8th and promptly traded him to the Chicago Bulls. Crawford joined the Knicks in 2004 and over five seasons with the team he averaged 17.6 points, five assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. Renowned for his scoring prowess and exceptional ball-handling, his success with the Knicks laid the foundation for his later achievements, including no less than three NBA Sixth Man of the Year awards.
Since retiring from the NBA, Jamal Crawford has transitioned into the media world. He has worked as a commentator with networks like TNT, where he joined Inside the NBA alongside Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson. Crawford has also announced games with Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller.
In 2021, Crawford brought his talents to NBA League Pass, and in 2023, he narrated the second season of Chasing History on the NBA app.
Crawford’s move to MSG comes as he garners attention from major national networks, including ESPN, Amazon, and NBC, for potential pundit positions. While ESPN could bring him on board this season, Amazon and NBC won’t begin their NBA coverage until next year.
Congratulations, Jamal!
