Lifelong Knicks fan replaces Ed Cohen in the lead spot.
The New York Knicks have named Tyler Murray as the team’s new radio play-by-play announcer, MSG Network announced. Murray, a lifelong Knicks fan, will take over a prestigious role filled by some of the NBA’s most iconic voices, including Marv Albert and Mike Breen.
Murray is a seasoned sports announcer with a wealth of play-by-play experience who has built an impressive career that spans Major League Baseball (MLB), college sports, and now the NBA.
Originally from Connecticut and raised in Massachusetts, Murray serves as the lead broadcaster for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox and contributes to the WEEI Red Sox Radio Network.
Murray graduated summa cum laude from Boston University in 2011 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He began his professional broadcasting career with the Advanced-A Daytona Cubs and has steadily progressed from there. His baseball experience includes calling Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training games and working with several minor league baseball clubs. Beyond baseball, his broadcasting portfolio spans college basketball, football, and hockey, having worked with institutions like UMass, Boston University, and Dartmouth College.
“As a lifelong Knicks fan, it’s always been my dream to call their games,” he said in a press release.
Murray replaces Ed Cohen, who had held the job since 2017. Cohen called only a few games last season due to a health issue that affected his voice, and Pat O’Keefe handled play-by-play duties in his absence. Monica McNutt remains the regular-game analyst, and Alan Hahn and Wally Szczerbiak will chip in occasionally. Note that to hear Murray, fans will have to tune in to 880 AM, following ESPN New York’s move from 98.7 FM.
Congratulations, Tyler, and get well soon, Ed. Go Knicks!
