When it comes to Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball, Drew Timme is one of the most historic players in their history. He is the school’s all-time leader in career points (2,307) and field goals made (910), while placing fourth in rebounds (896). He helped guide the Bulldogs to the National Championship Game in 2021, where they fell to Baylor. Despite his wildly successful college career, the 6-foot-10 forward went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. Drew Timme finally made his NBA debut on Friday for the Brooklyn Nets, and he put together a strong performance.
Gonzaga’s All-Time Scorer Records Double-Double In NBA Debut
Drew Timme Has Productive NBA Debut On Friday
Now 24 years old, Timme finally got to play in his first game in the NBA on Friday. Rostered by the Nets, his team lost by the score of 132-100 to the ascending Los Angeles Clippers. Brooklyn now has a woeful 3-17 record since the All-Star break, giving them a record of 23-51 on the season. With eight games remaining, they are just playing for lottery positioning and seeing which fringe players could potentially make the roster next season.
One of those players could be Timme. In his first career game, Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer received 25 minutes of game action for the Nets. He finished the outing by recording a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 4-6 from the field, 1-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-3 from the free-throw line.
Prior to joining the Nets NBA squad, Timme was playing for the Long Island Nets of the G League. In 29 regular season games for the G League team, the Richardson, Texas native posted averages of 23.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks. Timme shot 57.5% from the field, 38.5% from three-point territory, and 73.1% from the charity stripe. He also played in the G League for the Stockton Kings this season during the Tip-Off Tournament before being traded to Long Island.
Non-Guaranteed Team Option For Next Season
It was on Tuesday that Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Timme would be joining Brooklyn on a two-year deal. The second year is non-guaranteed, so essentially Friday, and the remaining eight games of the Nets season, is a chance for Timme to showcase his abilities in hopes of staying with the team in 2025-26.
The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a two-year deal with Drew Timme, league sources told @hoopshype. Timme recently was named G League Player of the Week, averaging 35.7 points and 12.7 rebounds. Timme also had a career-high 50 points. pic.twitter.com/rLRTYt39VB

Timme is not the only one on Brooklyn’s current roster playing to earn a spot in the league next season. Friday night also saw the NBA debut of guard Tyson Etienne. The 25-year-old played 10 minutes against the Clippers and scored eight points. He signed a two-way deal with the Nets earlier this month. There are numerous other players on Brooklyn’s roster who would be unfamiliar names to many fans of the league and playing to remain in the NBA come next season.
With the Nets only concerned with lottery odds for the rest of the season, it can be considered likely that Timme will continue to receive plenty of action in Brooklyn’s last eight contests. Here’s his opportunity that he’s waited for to show not just the Nets, but the rest of the league, that he is an NBA player.
