Matinee hoops to close out the season.
Rebuilding is never easy on a fanbase. Losing is never fun and it’s difficult seeing other teams’ fanbases take over… among all the other things that come with it. There’s a constant tug of war between the fanbase, particularly in Nets World, where this past season consisted of one side of the base rooting for losses and the other side rooting for wins. In most cases, this wouldn’t be an issue. But Nets fans were insistent on telling one another how they should root for the team. That, in its own, was a struggle.
All in all, it feels like we’ve all outgrown this season. The offseason is exciting and the Draft Lottery is in less than a month. It will be one of the biggest days in recent Nets history — and it all rides on a ping pong ball. Amid the losing, injury reports, bickering, etc. the biggest key this season is that the Nets found a solid head coach. It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to say that.
So, another losing season in the books. Cheers Nets fans. It hasn’t been easy but the future is brighter than what we’ve been watching these past couple seasons. We hope.
Might as well end this one with a win against the Knicks.
NETS VS. KNICKS
Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
Opponent: NY Knicks (50-31)
Tune In: WLNY (channel 55) on TV or Gotham Sports App; WFAN radio
Game Preview | Jordan Greene
Injury Report: Noah Clowney (right ankle), Cam Johnson (lower back), De’Anthony Melton (ACL), D’Angelo Russell (right ankle/illness), Day’Ron Sharpe (right knee) and Cam Thomas (left hamstring) will be out. Ziaire Williams (knee) is questionable.
For the Knicks, Ariel Hukporti with a knee injury. Karl Anthony Towns (knee), Jalen Brunson (ankle), OG Anunoby (right thumb, and Josh Hart (knee) are all listed as questionable. That will change before game time. None of New York’s regular starters will be playing. Except for Mikal Bridges, of course. The streak lives…
The Game
The Nets will try to avoid a sweep of the season series, having lost Games 1 and 2 in a back-to-back in November, then falling again in Game 3 in January. Two of the three were close. The all-time rivalry now stands at 115–112 but the Knicks have won nine straight, the second longest in the near 50 years the teams have played each other in the NBA. The Nets won 11 straight in the Jason Kidd era.
THANKS, FRANK!
Today is Frank DiGraci’s final game as YES Network’s coordinating producer for Nets games. He’s been doing it for 26 years. He’s grand master of the truck and talent whisperer for those on-air. He moves on to NBC Sports where he’ll run NBA coverage. Thanks and farewell, sir!!
