The Long Island Nets won their second game in the G League regular season, matching the number of win they totaled in the league’s 16-game Tip-Off Tournament.
The Long Island Nets once again took their home court on Tuesday night against the Birmingham Squadron. Despite Long Island losing Monday night’s contest in heartbreaking fashion, Tuesday night would tell a different tale. The Nets got back in the win column, defeating the Squadron, 112-104. They are now 2-2 in the G League regular season after going 2-14 in the league’s Tip-Off Tournament.
This win came on another great display from Drew Timme. Timme has been one of the biggest pieces of Long Island’s offense thus far in the regular season. On Tuesday, Timme finished with 24 points with 14 coming in the fourth quarter.
In his four games with Long Island after being traded from the Stockton Kings for Amari Bailey, Timme has averaged 35.1 minutes and 23 points per game. Small sample, but the three-time Gonzaga All-American has gotten better in every aspect of the game with the Nets affiliate
Last year, Timme played 12 games for the Wisconsin Herd, averaging 9.0 points in 20 minutes a game along with 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Compare those numbers to this year, In addition to those 23 points a game, Timme now averages 73.3% from the line, 9.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. He has become one of Long Island’s premiere players in his short time at Nassau Coliseum.
His performance Tuesday night was the fourth straight game in which he finished with 20 or more than 20 points.
Alongside Timme, Kendall Brown had another big game. The 6’7” former Pacer who’s shown he can play multiple positions led the team in scoring once again, this time picking up 25 points. Along with his three rebounds and three assists, Brown also continued to be all over the ball, picking up another two steals. His one downfall came in the turnover column, where he finished with three, which led the team tied along with Terry Roberts.
Trevon Scott, one of the Long Island Nets newest acquisitions had arguably his best game as a Net. The 28-year-old 6’8” power forward finished with 18 points, and 10 rebounds, obtaining his first double-double with Long Island. He, along with Killian Hayes, led the team in steals with three, team defense improving as part of the Long Island roster revamp.
Dariq Whitehead finished the game with 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block. Unfortunately, in the second quarter, Whitehead took a hard fall getting up wincing in pain with a noticeable limp. Whitehead played through the pain for the remainder of the game. An update will be made available at some point on Wednesday but there are currently no plans for an MRI or other testing.
The first quarter was very hard-fought. Long Island and Birmingham went back-to-back finishing the quarter with Long Island trailing by four. By the time halftime came around, Long Island once again was hot on Birmingham’s trail, finishing the half down by four.
The third quarter saw Long Island outscore Birmingham, 33-29. This allowed Long Island to tie the game up at 81 heading into the fourth and final quarter of play. Long Island once again outscored Birmingham in the fourth 31-23. This came in large part due to Timme’s 14 points in the fourth alone, to win the game by eight.
Squadron guard Jalen Crutcher posted 30 points and 14 assists to go along with four rebounds in 43 minutes. Lester Quinones tallied 29 points, four rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes.
Trevon Scott Wants To Be Impactful
As a part of the trade that sent Patrick Gardner to the Osceola Magic, Long Island landed Trevon Scott. Scott has been showing a great deal of potential for Long Island, and arguably played his best game as a Net on Tuesday night, picking up his first double-double on the team.

“They brought me here for a reason,” Scott tells ND. “Just coming in, being impactful on both sides of the ball, and doing what I can. That’s my mindset coming in, be impactful, help the ways they need help, and help the ways they want me to help the team.”
“It means a lot,” Scott tells ND about helping Long Island in a big way early on in his time here. “I credit myself and all the hard work I put in, but also the players and coaches for putting me in that position to be successful.”
Scott’s main goal for the remainder of the season is to just stay consistent and get better. He’s a bench player, but could definitely find himself starting for Long Island at some point this season.
