The Brooklyn Nets have been making moves with the trade deadline still more than a month away. A couple weeks ago, Dennis Schroder was dealt to the Golden State Warriors. On Sunday, Brooklyn shipped away Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton to the Los Angeles Lakers. They likely aren’t done dealing, as Cameron Johnson is a hot commodity for many contending teams.
The Nets most recent transaction wasn’t a trade though. On Wednesday, it was reported that the team is adding Tosan Evbuomwan on a two-way deal.
Nets Add Former Pistons, Grizzlies Player On Two-Way Deal
Evbuomwan Joining Nets On A Two-Way Contract
The 23-year-old Evbuomwan went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. In late January of 2024, he signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. Shortly after that expired, Evbuomwan joined the Detroit Pistons on another 10-day deal. He eventually signed a two-way deal with Detroit and remained with them for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Altogether, he played 17 total games in the NBA during his rookie season (four with the Grizzlies, 13 with the Pistons). He posted averages of 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 21.6 minutes. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 36-71 (50.2%) from the field, 12-32 (37.5%) from beyond the arc, and 17-25 (68.0%) from the free-throw line.
Evbuomwan has not played in an NBA game yet this season, and instead has been with the San Diego Clippers in the G League. He appeared in 16 games (all starts) for the G League squad in the Tip-Off Tournament. Playing 32.6 minutes per contest, he has averaged 18.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. He has shooting splits of .527/.339/.722.
Prior to his professional career, Evbuomwan played three years collegiately for the Princeton Tigers (2020-21 Ivy League season was canceled due to COVID-19). The England native was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2021-22. Evbuomwan was also named First Team All-Ivy League that season and 2022-23.
Brooklyn Waives Jaylen Martin To Make Room
Prior to adding Evbuomwan, Brooklyn had all three of their two-way positions filled. Due to the move, that meant that one would have to be waived. The player waived ended up being forward Jaylen Martin.
The 20-year-old went undrafted in 2023 after playing in the Overtime Elite League. The majority of his season has been spent with the Long Island Nets of the G League. Martin has appeared in just three games for a total of five minutes, scoring three points.
Along with Evbuomwan, the two other two-way players on the Nets are guard Tyrese Martin and guard Reece Beekman.
