The Brooklyn Nets are anticipating a season in which they will be seeing what their younger players will do with more playing time and less emphasis placed on winning every game. With Brooklyn heading into a rebuild, Cam Thomas is expected to have every opportunity to show what he can do and he was ranked accordingly.
In a ranking of the top-30 shooting guards heading into the 2024-25 NBA season by HoopsHype’s Frank Urbina, Thomas ranked 15th on the list. Nets Wire also covered when HoopsHype released its top-30 point guards list, a list that did not have either Dennis Schroder or Ben Simmons on it to some surprise.
“A potential good-stats-on-a-bad-team player, the Brooklyn Nets’ Cam Thomas can get buckets as he proved beyond any doubt last season when he averaged a career-high 22.5 points per game after putting up 10.6 points the campaign prior,” Urbina wrote in part about Thomas. As Urbina points out, Thomas put his name on the radar of more NBA fans due to his big scoring outings.
Thomas is one of the more polarizing players in the league due to some NBA fans considering him as one of the upcoming stars in the game while others think that he is just a player that scores a lot of points that doesn’t have an impact on winning. Regardless of what side of the aisle fans stand on, Thomas heads into next season as a middle-of-the-pack shooting guard who could move up the rankings if he can build on what he did during the 2023-24 campaign.
