Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder had a tough mission to embark this summer as he was trying to lead Germany to its second gold medal in as many years. Schroder and Germany had looked solid heading into the 2024 Paris Olympics quarterfinals, but with Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece being their matchup, Germany showed up to play.
In the early morning hours on Tuesday, Germany beat Greece 76-63 to make it to the semifinals of the Olympics for the first time in the nation’s history. As he has done throughout this tournament, Schroder held his own by putting up 13 points and eight assists while turning the ball over just once for the entire game.
Schroder got some help from a familiar teammate as well as Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner put up 18 points and three rebounds while forward Johannes Thiemann dropped 10 points and six rebounds. Greece built up as much as a 12-point lead in the game and leading by 10 points following the end of the first quarter.
Germany was surely tested in this one as Antetokounmpo put up 22 points and three assists, but the collective resolve of Germany was too much for Greece to overcome. As Germany heads to the semifinals that are set to play on Thursday, they will be waiting to see who their opponent will be out of France or Canada.
