With the NBA Trade Deadline just a couple of weeks away, the Brooklyn Nets are a team to keep an eye on. The Nets have already made a couple of notable trades this season. They traded Dennis Schroder to the Golden State Warriors and Dorian Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, in all likelihood, the Nets are not done making moves just yet. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps, Cameron Johnson is the most likely player to be traded this season.
“As we canvassed the league this week for the most likely players to be moved before the deadline, one name was unanimous: Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson, who is in the middle of a career season for the Nets.”
Furthermore, Bontemps and Windhorst mentioned the Nets could trade Johnson to have better odds at getting the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft lottery.
“The reasoning is obvious: The Nets, who were the early movers in the trade market by trading both Dennis Schroder (to the Golden State Warriors) and Dorian Finney-Smith (to the Los Angeles Lakers) over the past few weeks, continue to hunt for as many pingpong balls as possible in the upcoming NBA draft lottery. Johnson is arguably the one legitimate difference-making player who could change teams over the next several weeks, with his teammate Nic Claxton also mentioned as a possible trade candidate.”

Nets’ Asking Price for Cameron Johnson
Though Brooklyn is looking to deal Johnson, finding a trade partner could prove difficult. Reportedly, the Nets have a high asking price for the forward. Additionally, per a league executive, the Nets are not in a hurry to trade him.
“The Nets asking price is high,” one league executive said, referring to both Johnson and Claxton, “and they [have made] it known they don’t feel like they have to trade them now. But if they’re helping them win games, they’ll trade them or put them on the bench.”
Regardless, multiple teams reportedly have interest in Johnson. These teams include the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Cameron Johnson’s Season So Far
The 28-year-old is in the midst of a career year. Through 33 games, he is averaging 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3 assists. Additionally, he is shooting 49.9% from the field and 42.8% from beyond the arc. Johnson is a fantastic offensive player. However, he is also a decent defender. At this point in his career, Johnson is likely at his peak. However, he is still young enough to make an impact in the long run. This could prove beneficial to younger teams in championship contention right now.
After this season, Johnson still has two years remaining on his deal. Whichever team lands him will not risk him just being a rental. Whether the Nets trade him this season or not is something to keep an eye on. Nonetheless, Johnson provides a lot of value and should remain a hot commodity by February’s deadline.
