The Brooklyn Nets have added a champion to their squad, just not to the main roster. According to CLNS’ Bobby Manning, the Long Island Nets have signed Boston Celtics champion Oshae Brissett.

Brissett joined the Celtics as a free agent prior to the 2023-24 season. In 55 games, the Canadian native averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds. Mostly utilized off the bench, Brissett was a sparkplug and brought a lot of energy every time he stepped on the court. Brissett quickly became a fan favorite in Boston and appeared in 10 playoff games during the team’s championship run.
The Syracuse alum rejected his $2.5 million player option in the offseason. Later on, Brissett made it clear that wanted to go somewhere that would offer him more playing time (YouTube link).
“You know things didn’t work out the way in my favor. but that’s okay, you know. All I want to do is play, bro. Like if I go back to Boston, like how all the fans and you guys want me to come back, I’m literally going back for the vibes, you know what I’m saying? I’m not 36, I’m 26, so I can’t go nowhere for the vibes. I want to play basketball. I got a lot of juice left, bro. I’m in the prime of my athleticism and career. You know, I’m supposed to be playing. That’s all I was looking for, bro. That’s all I wanted.”
Unfortunately for him, this has yet to come to fruition. At least at the NBA level.
Brooklyn Nets Sign Championship-Winning Forward to G League Team
Oshae Brissett Can Bring a Lot to the Nets
Though he only signed a G League contract, there is a possibility that Brissett will play for the NBA team at some point this season. If he does, there is a lot to like about his presence in Brooklyn. Brissett is very athletic and can play much bigger than he is. Though he does not necessarily excel at anything, he can make his presence felt at each level of the game. Additionally, he is well-liked by past teammates and coaches, including Joe Mazzulla, who called Brissett “one of my favorite guys I’ve ever coached.”
Joe Mazzulla on Oshae Brissett:
“He’s one of my favorite guys I’ve ever coached — the personality, his character, who he is. Great teammate. It was great to be able to see him, spend time with him. I just hope it works out for him.”

Furthermore, Brissett is just 26 years old. While he is not likely to develop into a significantly better player, he certainly has the time to grow and contribute to winning basketball.
The Last Word
Brissett is a fun player to watch and root for. However, at this point in his career, he is unlikely to be a regular contributor on most contending teams. Signing a G League contract is a good way for him to get back in the NBA circle and showcase his talents.
