Shams Charania reported Tuesday an NBA trade rumor that the Nets have had some conversations regarding three of their rotation players and that the Golden State Warriors are one of the main teams interested. The Warriors have cooled off and faced injuries (De’Anthony Melton is out for the season) that have potentially changed their outlook on a Warriors trade this season. With their championship window narrowing and the Nets having a roster full of solid assets, a Warriors Nets trade may be more realistic now than ever before.
Possible Warriors Nets Trade Could be in the Works
Why Should a Warriors Trade is Possible
According to reports from Shams Charania, the Warriors have expressed interest in acquiring Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dennis Schroder. Although none are going to be the go-to second option in the Warriors’ offense, these three players are all solid depth pieces that could help the Warriors make a 2022-Esq championship run.
Since his injury, the Warriors now have Melton’s $12.8 million expiring contract to trade and draft picks. Additionally, young players like Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski could be included in a trade. They have yet to prove themselves ready to bridge the gap to another generation of Warriors’ excellence.
The Nets Trade Assets
The Warriors could choose to go for all three Nets’ assets, two, or just one. Either way, there is no doubt a different value in each of them. Johnson stands out as the most talented of the three. Johnson is averaging 18.8 points and 4.3 rebounds a game while shooting an impressive 43.4% from three. Johnson’s long-range proficiency would greatly help the Warriors’ three-heavy offense. His size and strength would help on the defensive end as well.
Schröder, who is having one of the best statistical seasons of his career, is another potentially great fit. He is averaging 18.6 points, 6.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. With Melton out, he is a prime candidate to become the secondary ball-handler behind Stephen Curry that the Warriors now so desperately need.
Finney-Smith, while not as good as Schroeder or Johnson, could also be an asset for the Warriors. He is shooting 43.2% from three-point range and is known as an excellent defender. The Warriors would definitely benefit from getting someone of his size and length. Unfortunately, his lack of passing ability and basketball IQ might make it not the best fit.
NBA Trade Rumors With Legs
All recent reports indicate that a Warriors trade is a real possibility. They may be interested in hunting bigger names than what a Nets trade could yield. However, there is no doubt that picking up any of the three available Nets players would improve their roster and provide them with shooting and depth.
Does picking up either of these three players make the Warriors championship favorites? Probably not. That being said, all three of these players would put the Warriors in a better position to make a playoff run, and everyone knows that if you give Stephen Curry a chance, a championship is always a possibility.
