The Brooklyn Nets have chosen to enter a rebuild by trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks last month earlier this summer in exchange for as many as five first-round picks and three players. Before Brooklyn decided to trade Bridges, many in the fanbase had wondered about general manager Sean Marks’ job security, but it seems like he’s still in a good place.
Brian Lewis of the New York Post recently wrote about what can be expected as Marks and the Nets go into their latest rebuild. By all indications, it seems that Marks and governor Joe Tsai have been in lockstep in terms of the direction of this franchise and that seems to be the case from others with knowledge of the situation (h/t Kyler Fox of Nets on SI).
“Sean’s track record there is very good: Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, Nic Claxton. [They took] Nic Claxton 31st in the draft. [Tsai] has every confidence in Sean,” Lewis wrote. One of the reasons that many have confidence in Marks at this point in time is because of how well he has drafted with players.
After the downfall of the Big 3 era during the 2022-23 season, the Nets were able to get plenty of draft picks for Kevin Durant and surprisingly were able to get a similar haul for Bridges. That means that after the Bridges trade to the Knicks, along with a swap of draft picks with the Houston Rockets, Marks has plenty of draft capital to play with one way or another.
