The most talked about trade may not happen and that’s fine with Cam Johnson
We won’t find out if Cam Johnson is playing tonight until around 1:30 p.m. when the latest injury report comes out. And we won’t find out if he’s been traded until 3:00 p.m. Thursday. But the 6’8” 28-year-old is ready for both. He participated in a full practice Monday and he says he understands it’s a business and he believes Sean Marks will keep him or his agent informed in the now unlikely event he gets moved.
“Yeah, the latter more so,” Johnson told Brian Lewis, referring to his agent. “If I felt the need to go speak to him about something, or I catch wind of something that I want to bring up to him, then I will.”
Hasn’t happened yet and as both Lewis and NetsDaily have been told, if it happens, it’ll be a surprise because Brooklyn is not making calls on him, not “dangling” him. Johnson said he understands that his job and Marks job are different
“He has a job to do. I have a job to do. And that’s what I’m focused on right now,” Johnson told The Post. “And right now, my job is to play for this team and to contribute to this team and to try to do all those things.
“And his job is to manage the group. So I’m not [worried]. If there’s something that I need to know, then I trust he’ll tell me, my agent will tell me. And [I’m] going from there.”
Of course, CamJ has been involved in a plethora of trade rumors, with him headed to a number of destinations including the Lakers, Kings, Warriors, Pacers and Thunder. However, the rumor mill on Johnson has slowed down in the last several days. And what of the purported asking price of two first round picks and “stuff?”
“[The Nets] are not shopping [their] players, so there isn’t an asking price,” one source told The Post.
Will other Nets players get moved? Day’Ron Sharpe is one name floated and a number of teams’ fans would like to see Nic Claxton on their team.
But if you listened to Jordi Fernandez last night, you’d think that the head coach likes having both around.
“They’ve been great. Our centers have to be the anchor of the defense, and those guys are doing a great job, especially because they’re guarding a lot of pick-and-roll,” said Fernandez. “They have to be the first one to communicate, to communicate loud, to communicate early, and they’ve been really good. Their impact on the ball has been great, and that’s what we need from them.”
In the meantime, Nets fans can always check out who else is being moved on Deadline Eve. It’s already been wild and it’s likely to continue.
