Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder and Germany will be looking to cap off their historic run in the 2024 Paris Olympics with a gold medal for the second straight year. Germany will be facing France on Thursday in the semifinals, but one prominent NBA player believes Germany will be going to the gold medal round.
“Germany has looked to me the clear-cut favorite for number two, for the silver medal, second best team in the Olympics,” Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green said on a recent episode of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” Germany has gone 4-0 since pool play began and one of their victories came against France so they should feel confident heading into Thursday’s matchup.
“To me, they’re (the) clear-cut number two,” Green explained. “I think Schroder (is) great in Olympic basketball, (Orlando Magic forward) Franz Wagner has taken the next step, dominating.” To Green’s point, Schroder and Wagner have been playing well as Germany’s two-best players in this tournament and both have been major reasons for the team’s success.
As Germany heads into Thursday’s matchup against France, they will have to keep in mind that France has plenty of talent on the team too as they pulled off an upset of Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez and Canada on Tuesday. Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert did not play much in that win due to a finger injury, but he could be good to go for Thursday.
