The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have been doing their thing in recruiting and that continued on Sunday.
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, four-star linebacker DJ McClary has flipped his commitment from the Nittany Lions to stay in his home state of New Jersey.
“That’s three ESPN300 recruits in Rutgers for the Class of 2025 with McClary’s flip from Penn State,” the college football writer noted. “Prior to this year, they’d landed three total ESPN300 recruits since ESPN began recruiting rankings in 2006.”
McClary took to social media to make his announcement, telling his roughly 3,000 followers: “JERSEY IM STAYING HOME #committed.”
The Jersey City native is widely considered a top 25 LB in the country and chose the Scarlet Knights over schools like PSU, Tennessee, USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon.

McClary took his official visit to Rutgers back on May 31 but was just at Penn State’s campus June 14.
His addition makes this a loaded 2025 class for head coach Greg Schiano who returned for his second act in Piscataway after leading the team from 2001-2011 and coming back in 2020.
Hopefully Schiano is able to take all of this talent and do something special with it. They open the season with Howard on Aug. 29.
