New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy isn’t happy with the NCAA Tournament selection committee.
Rutgers is a school in New Jersey and was on the bubble heading into Selection Sunday. The committee didn’t put Rutgers in even though it had good metrics and Murphy is upset about it.
“#35 in KenPom rankings. Beat #1 seed Purdue on the road and nearly beat them again two days ago. And won against a number of strong teams during the season. Rutgers should have made the Tourney. Period. Full stop,” Murphy tweeted.
While Murphy does have a strong point, the Scarlet Knights struggled down the stretch, which may have scared the committee.
They lost six of their last eight games heading into the Big Ten Tournament before they beat the Michigan Wolverines and then lost to the Purdue Boilermakers in the quarterfinals.
Had they beaten the Boilermakers, they potentially could’ve snuck in as one of the last four teams.
They’ll try to prove the committee wrong when they start their NIT campaign on Tuesday.
