We’re just a few weeks away from the start of the 2024 college football season but one school suddenly finds itself looking for a new athletic director.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs has suddenly resigned from his position after nearly nine years at the helm. Ryan Pisarri will serve as interim athletic director until further notice.
“Source: Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs has resigned from his job and Ryan Pisarri is expected to serve as the interim athletic director,” Thamel wrote.
Hobbs was named the Rutgers athletic director in 2015 following the resignation of Julie Hermann. Under his leadership, Rutgers won conference titles in soccer and field hockey and finally returned to bowl eligibility under head coach Greg Schiano after hiring him back in 2020.
But football and basketball are the money-makers for Rutgers and the program simply hasn’t become any sort of real force in the Big Ten ever since they joined the conference in 2014.
Now that the Big Ten has added a number of former Pac-12 titans such as USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington, Rutgers is far more likely to sink lower than join the rising tide.
The hunt is on for a new athletic director at the state university of New Jersey.
