The Rutgers football team has enjoyed a great start to their 2024 season and got a chance to host a rare Friday night primetime game against Washington last night. They wound up going all out for their entrance at SHI Stadium.
During the Fox College Football broadcast, the pageantry at the Piscataway, New Jersey venue was in full force as the live horse mascot Lord Nelson and the Scarlet Knight Sir Henry rode onto the field. Metallica’s For Whom The Bell Tolls played loudly in the stadium as the team – dressed in all black and led by head coach Greg Schiano – slowly made their way out of the tunnel before running onto the field.
While some tried to make jokes about the scene, most fans who saw it found the whole scene to be very, very cool and maybe one of the best primetime entrances for a team so far this college football season.
“Riding a horse in a stadium while waving a sword is cool!” one user replied to Unnecessary Roughness on X.
“Okay (expletive) it I’m 25 mins away from Rutgers I’m deff going to a game,” wrote another.
“Love Rutgers, will cheer for them every single week as long as they aren’t playing BYU This entrance is freaking awesome,” a BYU fan wrote.
Rutgers went on to win the game 21-18, rising to 4-0 on the season.
Could Rutgers find themselves in the top 25 next week?
