Dunlap will undergo surgery to repair a tear to his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) and miss action for the next month
Brady Dunlap will be out of commission for the next month.
St. John’s announced that the sophomore wing will be out for the next four-to-six weeks due to an injury to his left hand. Dunlap will undergo a procedure to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left hand.
According to Rick Pitino in the same statement, Dunlap has played through this injury since the December 7 game against Kansas State.
“It has been bothering his shooting and it’s time to surgically repair this so he can get back in time for February,” said Pitino.
This is the second time this season that Dunlap will miss time for an injury. Dunlap did not play in the 80-55 win versus Virginia on November 22 due to a hip problem and needing a cortisone shot.
Dunlap is averaging 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 10 games played and two starts this season, shooting 46.5% from the field, 37.5% from three, and 83.3% from free throws.
Freshman wing Jaiden Glover is expected to receive more playing time in Dunlap’s absence. The consensus four-star recruit is only averaging 3.1 points in very limited minutes this season, but the deep-range threat could be finding his prized shooting stroke after making five of his last eleven three-point attempts.
St. John’s will travel north to Rhode Island to take on the Providence Friars this Friday night, December 20 (8:00 p.m., FOX).
