Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins has hit the portal and is garnering a lot of interest.
The 6-foot-7 senior forward had a Zoom call with St. John’s coach Rick Pitino on Monday night that went “really well,” a source close to the situation said.
Hopkins will visit Georgetown, coached by his former Providence coach Ed Cooley, Thursday-Friday and then go straight to St. John’s Saturday-Sunday.
St. John’s is coming off a tough loss to Arkansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in Providence.
The Johnnies are expected to lose Kadary Richmond, Deivon Smith and Aaron Scott to graduation, while Brady Dunlap is reportedly hitting the portal.
Big man Zuby Ejiofor is expected to return while RJ Luis is expected to test the NBA Draft waters. If Luis returns and they add a few key players, St. John’s could have a preseason Top-5 team.
Hopkins played just three games due to injuries this season but averaged 17 ppg. He averaged 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 14 games last season.
Hopkins has also heard from Illinois, Ohio State and Michigan of the Big Ten and LSU and South Carolina from the SEC.
