The NYPD is currently investigating the matter after thieves fleed with multiple pieces of memorabilia from the Hall of Famer’s office
The New York Police Department has opened an investigation into a burglary of Rick Pitino’s office on the campus of St. John’s University, according to the New York Post.
Police say two men broke into the Hall of Fame coach’s office inside the Red Storm’s practice facility on Tuesday evening, swiping up to $375 worth of stolen goods, including a ceremonial dagger, a bullhorn, a signed basketball, and bottles of alcohol. The two men drove away on a moped, heading west on Union Turnpike.
Today on X (formerly Twitter), Pitino said he was upset about the theft and quipped about losing a six-liter bottle of 1985 Petrus Pomerol, an exorbitant bottle of wine that could be worth almost $100,000.
Really upset! Taking my memorabilia is one thing but the 1985 6L Petrus Pomerol has me livid!!! https://t.co/qehmu6HkLu

Later, Pitino quote-tweeted his original post with a disclaimer that he was only joking about the Petrus Pomerol and would never keep such an expensive bottle in his office. Still, he was saving it for a special occasion: when St. John’s returns to the Final Four.
The 1985 Petrus was a joke I would never keep that on my desk! Saving that one in a wine cellar to open after the Johnnies go to the final four! https://t.co/18R6yZ3gQD
