Richmond was named one of twenty players to make the preseason watch list for the Jerry West award, which is given to the country’s best shooting guard
St. John’s guard Kadary Richmond received even more preseason recognition on Tuesday afternoon, earning a spot on the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s Jerry West Award watch list, which is awarded to the best shooting guard in the country at the end of the season.

This is the second straight year a St. John’s guard was named to the Jerry West preseason watch list. Last year, Jordan Dingle made the list after ranking second in the nation in scoring in the 2022-23 season with 23.4 points per game for Penn.
Richmond transferred to St. John’s last May after spending three seasons with rival Seton Hall. The Brooklyn native averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists for the Pirates last season, earning a spot on the All-Big East First Team at the end of the year and winning an NIT championship.
Earlier this month, Richmond was named one of two team captains for the St. John’s men’s basketball team, the other being Zuby Ejiofor. He also earned a spot on the preseason All-Big East first team last week.
Even though Richmond fits the mold of a point guard more than a shooting guard, he would likely not complain about the acknowledgment.
