Ayo joins Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond as co-captains for the 2024-25 team
The St. John’s men’s basketball leadership group continues to grow.
In a press release on Monday, Head coach Rick Pitino announced that Sadiku Ibine Ayo was named the Red Storm’s third co-captain, joining Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond as the team’s nominated leaders.
“Sadiku exemplifies every quality we want in a St. John’s man – selfless and team first,” Pitino said in Monday’s release.
Ayo is playing in his second season with the Red Storm and his third under Rick Pitino, as he began his college career at Iona by averaging 2.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 25 games played and four starts.
The 6-foot-6 junior wing from Ghana only played five games last year before he underwent season-ending knee surgery. Ayo has appeared in as many games to begin this season, highlighted by a six-point performance in a 80-55 win over Virginia where he made both of his attempted threes, the most he’s scored as a member of the Red Storm.
After a six-day holiday break, Ayo and the Red Storm will face Harvard at Carnesecca Arena on Saturday, November 30 (6:30 p.m., Peacock).
